Telemarketing Sales Calls
Many people are fed-up with the increasing number of unwanted
telemarketing calls we receive at home. Northeast Telephone
does not sell customer’s names to any telemarketing agencies,
and we would like to help our friends and neighbors reduce
the number of unwanted telemarketing calls.
One way to reduce these unwanted calls is to contact the
Telephone Preference Service (TPS), a do-not-call service
sponsored by the Direct Marketing Association. Simply send
TPS your name(s), address and telephone number(s) with area
code, and within a few months you should notice a decrease
in the number of unwanted telemarketing calls you receive
at home. While this service will not stop all telemarketing
calls, we feel it’s a great place to start. Call us at 822-3201

Another way to reduce unwanted telemarketing sales calls
is to simply tell the caller you are not interested in what
they are selling. Then, tell them you would like your name
and number placed on their do-not-call list. Telemarketing
companies are obligated to honor your request.
With a combination of this direct approach and registering
with TPS, you should see a dramatic decrease in the amount
of unwanted telemarketing calls you receive at home.

900/976 Call Blocking In response to public concern over possible misuse of the
services or objectionable messages, 900/976 Call Blocking
will enable your phone to automatically block all calls to
976 numbers within your area code and all 900 numbers. We
cannot prevent calls to some 900 or 976 numbers, while allowing
others to be completed . There is no charge for restricting
your phone the first time, and you may cancel Call Blocking
whenever you wish. If you decide later to reorder 900/976
Call Blocking, a service connection charge will be applied
to your telephone bill. Your service will not be interrupted
for non-payment of 900/976 calls.

Obscene and Harassing Phone Calls It is a criminal offense for anyone to make obscene or harassing
phone calls.
If you receive such a call:
- Hang up at the first obscene word or if silence lasts
past the second “hello”.
- Give no information such as your name
or address.
- Advise your children to give no
information to strangers. If you are not at
home, they should say, “Mom/Dad can’t
come to the phone right now.
- If such calls persist, contact the police.
